Instagram advertising
Instagram is a medium that has been growing rapidly in recent years. Users are flocking and Instagram is constantly evolving, both for users but also their creative advertising opportunities.
With a potential audience of more than 928 million people, Instagram ads are a key tool for any social media marketer. With access to parent company Facebook's extensive targeting capabilities and tools, Instagram advertising is an effective strategy that is easy to implement.
What is Instagram advertising?
Instagram ads are posts or stories that a business pays to promote to users' Instagram feeds. They can look like regular Instagram posts, but are always identified by the fact that they are clearly sponsored content.
They may also include a call to action button (CTA), to generate traffic or conversions.
Types of Instagram Ads
Instagram offers several ad formats:
- Stories
- Pictures
- Video
- Carousel
- Collection ads
- Explore
- IGTV
- Instagram Shopping
Each ad type serves different business objectives and has different call-to-action options
Know your audience
Think about your ads from your potential customers' perspective: what solution does your product or service offer them? What do they need and want? Remember their goals and values when creating your ads. This is about them - not you.
Instagram advertising - what does it cost?
If you're brand new, the cost of Instagram advertising might be one of the things you think about most. After all, Instagram advertising should be profitable for you, even if you're a small or start-up business.
Therefore, you should obviously consider how much money you want to spend on Instagram advertising. Unfortunately, there is no list price where you can easily and quickly look up and get an overview, as prices depend on several different parameters.
So there's no simple answer to the question of how much Instagram ads cost. Many factors affect the cost of your Instagram ads, including:
- Targeting
- Location
- Type
- Time of year
The best way is to think about how much you want to spend, or how much you are willing to spend per conversion. In most cases, you can always run a small campaign for almost no money. Instagram's parent company Facebook says itself: "You tell Facebook how much you want to spend on the campaign. Then we try to get as many results as possible for that amount. If you want to spend $50 a week, you do that. If you want to spend $50,000 a week, you do that." So you control your Instagram ad spend by setting a campaign spend limit, a daily budget and a bid strategy.
Follow-up on your Instagram ads
As with Facebook Ads you can see the effectiveness of your Instagram ads in Facebook Ads Manager. Always follow up on your Instagram ads because if they are not performing optimally, you should change them before it ends up costing you too much money.
Tip: To get off to a good start, it's a good idea to run two ads in parallel. That way, you can split test and compare this data to assess which ad performed best.
