What is Instagram advertising?

Instagram ads are posts or stories that a business pays to promote to users' Instagram feeds. They can look similar to regular Instagram posts, but are always identified by the fact that they are clearly sponsored content.

Instagram advertising - what does it cost?

If you're brand new, the cost of Instagram advertising might be one of your biggest concerns. Instagram advertising has to be worthwhile for you, even if you're a smaller or start-up business.

Therefore, you should of course consider how much money you want to spend on Instagram advertising. Unfortunately, there are no list prices that you can quickly and easily look up and get an overview of, as prices depend on several different parameters.

There is no simple answer to the question of how much Instagram ads cost. Many factors affect the cost of your Instagram ads, including:

  • Placement
  • Type
  • Time of year

The best way is to think about how much you want to spend or how much you are willing to spend per conversion. In most cases, you can always run a small campaign for almost no money. Instagram's parent company Facebook says so themselves: "You tell Facebook how much you want to spend on the campaign. Then we try to get as many results as possible for that amount. If you want to spend 50 kr. a week, you do that. If you want to spend $50,000 a week, you just do it."  So, you control your Instagram advertising costs by setting a campaign spend limit, a daily budget and a bidding strategy.


Follow up on your Instagram ads

As with Facebook Ads you can see the performance of your Instagram ads in Facebook Ads Manager. Always follow up on your Instagram ads, because if they are not performing optimally, you should change them before it ends up costing you too much money.

Tip: To get off to a good start, you can set up two ads running in parallel. Then you can split test and compare this data to assess which ad has performed best.
