FTP

What is FTP?

FTP was invented back in 1971 by Abhay Bhushan and as written above, FTP is an abbreviation for File Transfer Protocol, which is a program mostly used to upload files from a computer to a web server - for example a website. FTP can also be used to download programs and files from the Internet.

How can I use FTP?

To use FTP, you need to have an FTP client installed on the connected computer. However, it is not as difficult to do this as it may seem when you read the above.

There are a number of different FTP programs that are free on the web. One of the most popular FTP servers is FileZilla. It is possible to download FileZilla, which is free open source software under the terms of the GNU General Public License - regardless of whether you are on a Mac or Windows computer
