What is an anchor text?
En anchor text (also called a anchor text) is the clickable text that makes up a text link - a kind of ad text that gives the user an expectation of what they are clicking into. At the same time, Google uses the anchor text as an indicator of what the page is about.
Seven types of anchor texts are distinguished:
- Brand name. Your company name.
- Web address. Your domain name.
- Search phrase. Keywords in combination with other text (at least two other words).
- Generic. Generic text, for example "click here".
- Image. Image link without text (e.g. a logo).
- Spam. Rambling text and text of a sexual nature.
Variation is the key word when you work with link building. However, be aware that deliberate use of keywords as anchor text is against Google guidelines and should not be used. It is natural that your brand name, your website's URL and your logo (image) are often anchor text on text links.
